Biostatistics & Breeding Information Scientist for oilseed rape molecular breeding (m/f/d)

We are looking from July 2023 for a Scientist for biostatistics and breeding information for molecular breeding oilseed rape (OSR). The permanent position is on a full-time basis in the department of breeding technologies maize and oilseed crops at KWS SAAT SE & Co. KGaA in our headquarters in Einbeck (Lower Saxony /Germany). The position includes an intensive collaboration with the oilseed rape breeding department, the molecular breeding research teams and with scientists from multiple functions.


 

Your responsibilities:

  • Intensive collaboration with oilseed rape breeding, biostatistics, and breeding information teams with the aim to identify best strategies to increase selection gain in OSR breeding programs
  • Identify, evaluate, and implement new quantitative genetic approaches in OSR breeding in collaboration with breeders and biostatistics
  • Support OSR breeding with statistical data analysis and research in the context of quantitative genetics and predictive breeding
  • Become an expert in using breeding information software and data analysis tools with the aim to facilitate their regular use by the breeding teams
  • Train & support OSR breeders in using breeding information software and guide them for best data listing and standardization
  • Regular participation and contribution to meetings and workshops in breeding and molecular breeding

Bring in your strengths:

  • Ph.D. or M.Sc. in plant or animal breeding, plant genetics or statistics
  • Excellent knowledge of plant breeding and quantitative genetics
  • High interest in testing and developing new ideas and approaches
  • Basic knowledge on breeding information software and breeding data
  • Knowledge on structuring, handling and analysis of phenotypic and molecular marker data
  • Excellent team player with analytical and critical thinking, open minded and good communication skills
  • Very good written and verbal communication skills in English, knowledge of German an advantage
  • Willingness to travel (up to 15%)
