Sustainability starts with the seed! In context of the KWS sustainability ambition 2030, and to enable reduction of chemical crop protection in agriculture, we are looking for a Sugar Beet Breeder (m/f/d) for the Resistance Breeding Group on a fulltime and permanent basis at the headquarters in Einbeck/Germany within KWS SAAT SE & Co. KGaA. You can expect a structured introduction to a well-established sugar beet team of experienced breeding assistants, breeders, and scientists (m/f/d).

Your new challenge:

  • Development of variety components with resistances to fungal and viral diseases in a worldwide breeding program.
  • Analysis and interpretation of data from greenhouse and field tests with KWS germplasm and genetic resources.
  • Optimization of breeding schemes including genomic selection and molecular markers.
  • Integration of molecular tools to identify the genetic architecture of resistance traits.
  • Collaboration in an international team of breeders and interaction with various research teams.

You bring in your competencies:

  • Completed university study in agricultural science, horticulture or a related area (M.Sc./Ph.D.) with a focus on plant breeding.
  • Strong background in quantitative genetics, statistics and breeding methodology.
  • Strong knowledge of practical plant breeding including predictive breeding and molecular markers.
  • Experience in resistance screenings and phytopathological background is a plus.
  • Very good knowledge of MS Office applications, i.e., Excel and Access, ideally experiences with breeding software and databases.
  • Strong ability to communicate and work in a team.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, German is a plus.
  • High level of initiative, independent way of working, reliability, and flexibility.
  • Willingness to travel out of the country (up to 15%)
