Join the Quest for Trait Discovery in the Heart of Sugar beet, Cereals and Protein Crops!

We are on the lookout for a Scientist (m/f/d) in Quantitative Genetics for Trait Discovery to join our Breeding Technology Application team at KWS SAAT SE & Co. KGaA in Einbeck (Lower Saxony, Germany). This position is to be filled in Full-Time and with a permanent contract.

In this role, you will engage in close collaboration with breeding and research teams globally. Additionally, you will play a significant role in advancing our Nutritional Food Ingredient Strategy.

Here's a glimpse into your responsibilities:

  • Trait Discovery: You will be at the helm, devising and implementing strategies to map and finemap trait loci and develop genetic markers for use in breeding, developing, and utilizing suitable genetic and genomics datasets.
  • Exploring the Genomic Landscape: Dive deep into complex structural and functional genomics data derived from breeding germplasm and plant genetic resources, unveiling the hidden genetic variation that is essential to crop improvement.
  • Experimental Expert: Take the lead in designing, directing, and executing experiments that support our breeding projects, transforming theory into reality.
  • Collaborative Conductor: Your role isn't confined to a team, you'll be a bridge between teams, fostering effective communication internally and forming strategic alliances with academic and industrial partners.
  • Creative Expert: You won't just support strategic initiatives; you'll shape them – especially in the field of digitalization and automation.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • You hold an PhD (or equivalent experience) in Quantitative Genetics, Plant Genetics, or Statistics or hold a Master’s degree in a respective field with at least 3 years of work experience.
  • Your expertise in marker-trait association (e.g., GWAS, QTL analysis) and related methodologies is outstanding.
  • You're fluent in the language of programming, with a proven command of languages like R, Python or Julia.
  • Experience in Marker Development, Genomics, or related areas are a big plus. Familiarity with data storage systems (Microsoft Access & Dataverse, Data Lakes), process mapping, standardization and automation would be an advantage.
  • Your excellent teamwork, analytical thinking, open-mindedness, and strong communication skills make you a true asset in fostering collaboration and driving innovation within multidisciplinary teams.

Why KWS is Your Destination for Growth:

  • As a Scientist, you're not just a cog in the machine; you're a vital contributor to the breeding department's triumphs and the creation of exceptional crop varieties.
  • As a family-run company, we live a culture with the values of team spirit, closeness, and trust, independence, and foresight.
